Free Legal Answers support with LawWorks
LawWorks is a charity dedicated to widening access to justice through pro bono legal advice. As part of this mission, they launched Free Legal Answers - an online platform that allows individuals on low incomes to submit legal questions and receive tailored advice from qualified volunteer lawyers. Originally inspired by a US-based service created by the American Bar Association, the platform needed customisation and technical stewardship to meet the legal and operational requirements of England and Wales.
Following a successful pilot, LawWorks sought a trusted digital partner to provide ongoing support, maintenance, and strategic development for the platform. They also needed a team that could contribute to a broader vision: the integration of Free Legal Answers into a future digital ecosystem spanning all of LawWorks' online services.

We stepped in as LawWorks’ technical partner, taking over the ongoing maintenance and iterative development of the Free Legal Answers platform. Built on Orchard CMS (.NET-based), our initial work included reviewing the existing Azure-based setup, streamlining deployment processes, and ensuring the system was robust, secure, and future-ready. We also worked with LawWorks to refine the user experience for both applicants and pro bono lawyers, ensuring the platform remained accessible and fit for purpose.
Alongside this, we’ve supported LawWorks with enhancements based on user feedback, including UI improvements and backend optimisations, while aligning technical improvements with their wider digital aspirations.
At the end of the contract we also provided advice to LawWorks on how to move forward with the application in terms of making sure it was scalable for the organisation in future.
